A Scholarship Can Open the Door to Opportunity

For a young person with educational ambitions, financial hardship can create difficult choices.

A student may have completed high school and have the ability and desire to continue studying, but the cost of tuition, learning materials, accommodation, transportation, and other educational expenses may make the next step difficult.

This is one of the reasons the Lee Ann Scholarship Initiative exists.

Since 2020, the initiative has worked to support deserving young Murle students who face financial barriers to continuing their education.

Creating an Opportunity

The purpose of a scholarship is to help create an opportunity.

Depending on available resources and individual circumstances, the Lee Ann Scholarship may support students pursuing secondary education, university education, college and higher education, vocational training, skills development, and other appropriate educational programs.

The initiative recognizes that every student’s circumstances are different.

For this reason, students may be considered based on factors such as:

  • Genuine financial need
  • Educational commitment
  • Academic progress
  • Responsible conduct
  • Availability of alternative support
  • Educational priorities
  • Long-term potential for self-reliance

Where appropriate, students may also be asked to provide documents such as admission letters, fee structures, academic results, receipts, and other relevant information.

Opportunity Comes With Responsibility

Receiving educational support is both an opportunity and a responsibility.

Beneficiaries are expected to take their education seriously, make reasonable academic progress, use support appropriately, and work toward greater independence.

The objective is not to create permanent dependency.

Instead, we want educational support to help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and qualifications they need to build more sustainable futures.

The Bigger Picture

One student’s education can potentially influence many other people.

A graduate may eventually become a teacher who educates hundreds of students.

Another may become a health worker serving families.

Someone else may become an entrepreneur creating opportunities for others.

A graduate may become a church leader, professional, community worker, administrator, or mentor.

This is why the Lee Ann Scholarship views education as an investment in people.

Our long-term vision is to see educated, responsible, Christ-centered, and community-minded Murle young people equipped to contribute to their communities and South Sudan.

How Students Can Learn More

If you have contacted the Lee Ann’s Hand of Hope Scholarship Initiative to learn more about educational support and current opportunities, please understand that submitting an inquiry does not instantly guarantee scholarship support. All assistance depends on available resources, individual circumstances, documentation where appropriate, program priorities, and agreed arrangements.

We also welcome individuals, churches, organizations, businesses, and well-wishers who want to help create more educational opportunities.

Together, we can help young people learn, grow, develop skills, serve others, and contribute to their communities.

Education is an investment in people, and educated people can become the foundation of a stronger community.
